New Creation Adornments

Preached by Apostle Aje Pelser, Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town, Nov. 26

 Scripture Reading

Col 3:12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;

Col 3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

Col 3:14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

Col 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Col 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

To gain the full perspective of the work of the Holy Spirit: read 1 Corinthians 12,13,14; Galatians 5; Romans 12.

We are continuing our study of the powerful work of the Holy Spirit in our Revival Fire Series.

Seven-Day New Creation Adornment Plan

Read each passage in the New King James Version (NKJV). This plan includes all Scripture references from the selected list; full verse text is not reproduced. Highlighted words identify each day’s focus.

Day 1

Tender mercies.

Read: Jude 21.

Kindness.

Read: Titus 3:4; 2 Peter 1:7.

Reflect: What opportunities do I have to show mercy this week?

Day 2

Meekness.

Read: James 1:21.

Humility

Read: Isaiah 57:15; Philippians 2:8; Matthew 11:29.

Reflect: Which strengths do I yet have to submit to God? Which instructions from the word can I obey and follow instead of my own opinions?

Day 3

Longsuffering.

Read: 1 Corinthians 13:4.

Reflect: list some of the areas where you have practised patience. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you in the areas where you lack patience.

Day 4

Bearing with one another.

Read: Galatians 6:2.

Forgiving one another.

Read: Matthew 18:35.

Reflect: Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of specific people and instances where you still have to forgive. Consider Jesus on the cross who said: “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”?

Day 5

Put on love which is the bond of perfection.

Read: Ephesians 5:25; 1 John 4:7. Romans 5:1-5

Reflect: Pray for the Holy Spirit to pour out His love in your heart to strengthen your hope of restoring love in your relationships.

Day 6

Do all things in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Read: Acts 3:16; Revelation 19:13, 16; Revelation 22:4.

Reflect: Practise praying in the name of Jesus and recall times when you have done in the past. Consider testifying about the power in the name of Jesus.

Day 7

Give thanks to God.

Read: Philippians 4:6.

Prayer focus: Give thanks to God, especially when you pray.

Reflect: What can I thank God for in my life at this stage? We have a thanksgiving service once a year as a church and we ask families to prepare for it and think about all the moments God intervened and answered our prayers. We write down what we are thankful for and what we are trusting for in the following year. It’s truly amazing how many of the prayer points are answered every year! We keep those thanksgiving forms as a testimony of God’s providence and faithfulness for generations come!
